Lupita Nyong’o: I’ve worked hard to feel beautiful in my natural skin
OHMYGOSSIP — The 30-year-old actress Lupita Nyong’o chopped her hair off when she was just 19 because she fancied a change, but she decided to keep the short do because it required less time in the salon.
She said: “The first time I cut all my hair off was when I was 19. I just got fed up going to the salon every week. I’d had enough! On a whim, it was off. It’s low-maintenance.”
Meanwhile, the ’12 Years a Slave’ admits she doesn’t tend to wear much make-up because she feels confident in her own skin, but can understand why it gives women a slight boost.
She explained: “I went to an all-boys high school, and they accepted girls in only the two A.P. classes. They had these archaic rules: For example, girls couldn’t wear make-up. I found it so outrageous that an all-boys school could tell girls to not wear make-up!
“So I went on a campaign. I got a petition signed and everything. If a girl wants to wear make-up to boost confidence, why not? [But] I’ve worked hard to feel beautiful in my natural skin. Personally, I don’t ever want to depend on make-up to feel beautiful.”
However, the brunette beauty has been enjoying working alongside her make-up artist Nick Barose and exploring different looks.
She told the March edition of Glamour magazine: “I love colour. I’m enjoying trying all different shades. Makeup isn’t something I’ve worn a lot of in my life. So it’s good to work with someone like Nick Barose, who is inspired by my complexion and knows how to work with it.”
