OHMYGOSSIP — Sacha Baron Cohen has pulled out of the Freddie Mercury biopic. The Dictator actor, despite long being attached to play the iconic singer, has left over creative differences with Mercury’s Queen bandmates, reports Deadline.
Cohen is said to have wanted a gritty, R-rated approach to Mercury’s life, while the band – who have script and director approval – are intent on a PG account of the talented musician’s life.
Writer Peter Morgan and directors David Fincher and Tom Hooper – who worked with Cohen on Les Misérables – were all brought in by the actor but were rejected by Queen.
Graham King, Tim Headington, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal are producing with Queen Films.
Cohen will next be seen in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which will arrive in cinemas on December 20.
