Sarah Ferguson to attend Margaret Thatcher’s funeral
OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s the Duchess of York will join Queen Elizabeth at Baroness Margaret Thatcher’s funeral at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday (17.04.13).
Britain’s Duchess of York will attend Baroness Margaret Thatcher’s funeral on Wednesday (17.04.13). Sarah Ferguson – ex-wife of Prince Andrew – will join Queen Elizabeth at the funeral of the former Prime Minister at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral this week, who passed away last Monday (08.04.13) aged 87 after suffering a stroke.
A close friend of Sarah – fondly known as Fergie – told the Telegraph newspaper: “Sarah is honoured to have been invited and intends to go. She wants to pay her respects to Lady Thatcher.”
The duchess saw Lady Thatcher as a “steadfast” acquaintance and looked to her with great admiration.
Speaking after the politician’s passing, Sarah said: “Margaret Thatcher was such a strong lady, who has always been part of my life and whom I admired greatly.”
Sarah was so close to Thatcher she invited the former leader to her wedding to Andrew in 1986, who she divorced from 10 years later.
She added: “I was fortunate enough to get to know her from the time that she attended my wedding in 1986, and, subsequently, I shared numerous cups of tea with her, and loved to listen to her wisdom.
“Margaret Thatcher will be greatly missed. She is part of all our history and was such a strong and consistent lady.”
The queen backed the decision to hold a ceremonial funeral with military honours for the iconic figure, which will be followed by a more intimate gathering.
A Downing Street spokesman said: “With the queen’s consent, Lady Thatcher will receive a ceremonial funeral with military honours.
“A wide and diverse range of people and groups will be invited. The service will be followed by a private cremation.”
