‘Tomboy’ Duchess Catherine
OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s Duchess Catherine was a “tomboy” when she was younger and just for practicality, according to her uncle Gary Goldsmith.
Britain’s Duchess Catherine was a “tomboy” when she was younger. The 31-year-old royal – who is now regarded as one of the world’s most stylish and sophisticated women – liked to dress in male-inspired clothes while growing up as she wanted to be practical.
Speaking about Catherine and her sister Pippa’s fashion sense, the girls’ uncle, Gary Goldsmith, said: “The kids were all quite tomboyish, especially Kate. It’s not how you would imagine a little princess to be – the girls were always in jeans and jumpers.
“She was quite a tomboy and she was always dressed to have fun – it was very relaxed. I mean, she looked a million dollars – the whole family looked a million dollars – when they dressed up to go somewhere.
“They all turned up to my wedding and they all looked brilliant, but at home they were just incredibly relaxed. Kate as a teenage girl was always in jeans and a T-shirt, but the minute she went to university, she dressed completely differently. The Kate I know was always just a tomgirl, playful.”
Gary says as the girls got older, he would start buying them designer handbags and accessories and Catherine – who was known as Kate Middleton prior to her 2011 wedding to Prince William – always favoured a more classic look.
He told Britain’s Hello! magazine: “As they got older I could be more inventive and buy Burberry watches and their first Gucci handbags. Kate would have the very simple, very elegant watch and Pippa would always have slightly more fashionable, slightly more funky watches.”
