Chile could host Miss Universe 2012
After an absence of five years, the Miss Universe Chile contest returns. The national event will be held not in Santiago, but in Concepcion.
The pageant organizer, Ms. Patricia Squella, said that there are two important reasons to hold the contest this year: “We are doing the Miss Universe Chile because the international event will take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on September 12th; and also, because President Sebastián Piñera has pre-approved a notion so Chile could host the Miss Universe contest” she added.
Organizers are taking the national contest to Concepcion in hopes of making it less partial to girls from the capital.
The pageant is open to women between 18 and 27 years of age, single and without children. There is a height requirement of minimum 1.70 meters and of course, they must be Chilean.
The final event will take place on Saturday, July 9th. Squella said that the winner will be extensively prepared in all areas in order to make a strong showing in Brazil.
If government plans go through, the finals of Miss Universe 2012 will take place in Chile’s capital city of Santiago during July/August 2012.
Cecilia Bolocco, Chile’s only Miss Universe, won the pageant in 1987.
