Iina Koppinen: Blog’n’roll – decorating and hanging artwork

OHMYGOSSIP – Early in the morning cold wind reminded me of upcoming fall – though sun tried to shine on me while I took a short walk to near forest.  While walking I was thinking about wallpapers and figures, because I should decorate part of my studio, so it would be more comfortable to work there. The wallpaper which is covering part of one of the walls has been there much too long – for years now.  And guess what?  It has those large winding black and white figures and they all together look like a wall clock!   New decoration also in the studio makes me feel high – well, I spend majority of my time there.

I have purchased some new artworks and one really cool, inspiring art poster.  It’s taken from SPRING 18 – collection from netstore called Anouk Studio.  It looks very comfy in my living room, and its pastel tones are bringing more light to my living room!

These days thick collage- style hanging art in the environment is ordinary, one of the trends nowadays – concerning artworks and hanging them on the galleries and also walls at homes.  I will use this style in my upcoming exhibition at the public library in Keuruu. It is unconventional and new style in my solo exhibitions – usually I have given more space between artworks. These artworks will be placed in folding screen.. so there will be a lot more freedom to place whole series in the way I want those to be seen.  It is ideal for the altitude and how thick the placing will be. Exhibition will be the series I have done in Southern Europe – Spain and Italy, and they are sized a bit smaller artworks, about A4 (210X297mm) to A3 (297X420mm) – including sketches, paintings, photos, and art photos about how I have felt the atmospheres and everything I’ve experienced in those countries.

However, buying new artworks for decoration at home – naturally the most important will be the decorator’s own personal aesthetic affection. The artwork is probably like one piece in multiple aesthetic objects, and it is the reality.  I myself use to purchase artworks to make my home lively, comfy and make sense – and those must be inspiring and interesting pieces.  I understand people who are choosing artworks from the gallery and at the same time thinking is the work suitable from something like sofa or curtains – but the meaning will be always in this painting or any other artwork – not the colors only.. it is important to find personally attractive item to home.  So, then it will fit easily to the whole decoration.  Artworks can share space etc. at home.  Hooks and nails are easy to use these days, the hardware stores have large assortments how to make it.

Oh.. and don’t forget the sculptures!  Those are phenomenal when decorating – even when speaking smaller apartment.  I’am searching now for a thin wooden sculpture on the floor or in a low furniture.

It is realistic, if an artist is willing to sell artworks, just like me, must accept the thing that it is going to be bare addition to decoration.  But I do believe, when I sell my artwork, like paintings to buyers living room – one day it might be in some quality collection of artworks!  I’am lucky, I have experienced this once earlier, already.  Hopefully more in the future too.

In my previous interview I was telling, if people do not identify artist, it means artist’s advertisement is poor..  I believe more when you are in public and media – it will rise the value of artworks now and in the future.  Publicity and skillful visual artist is a combination and the best guarantee also for purchaser – that the art will be good investment too, you know.

The value of the artworks will be preserved in those series which express trends of the artist from different eras.  I have to mention – when you are buying art to your home or office – you might not think how artist is seen in the media or probable to rise its value.. The artwork must be the one you want, though it should be the best of the artist’s production – an this is what the artists are trying to express in each exhibition they have.  They are always the newest ones – over and over again – though those in real might be from former series – couple of years ago.
