Lindsay Lohan’s dad speaks out about their reunion
Michael Lohan admits it’s difficult for him to have a relationship with troubled daughter Lindsay.
The showbiz patriarch saw the actress for the first time in seven months earlier this week at the Betty Ford rehab clinic where she is currently receiving treatment but says with them both being famous, it is hard for them to get the privacy they need to work things out.
“The only problem is when you are in the public eye like we are, the entire relationship is under scrutiny so it’s hard. It’s harder for her,” he told OK! magazine.
Michael — who has previously stated Lindsay is addicted to prescription drugs — also revealed the Mean Girls star is doing well and has blamed the people she used to hang around with for her problems.
“I know for a fact she’s focusing on herself. I see it more now than ever,” he said.
“I think her problems are just this business in general. They care more about themselves than the people around. People in this business can be very selfish. This is not about Lindsay because she’s a very unselfish person. As a matter of fact she’s a very giving person. But some other people don’t care what level they take someone down to.
“She’s at the top. When you are at the top they want to bring them down.”
Another reason Michael believes he has a difficult relationship with Lindsay is the fact she struggled to come to terms with her parents’ divorce.
“I think divorce had a lot to do with it,” he said. “It’s a very horrible thing but it happens at times.”
Lindsay was ordered by a Los Angeles court to stay in rehab until January 3 2011 after she tested positive for cocaine during a random drug test in September.
