Amber Tamblyn almost turned down her new recurring role on House

Amber Tamblyn, who recently joined the cast of the Fox medical drama as the socially awkward Martha Masters, says she nearly balked at the chance to star alongside Hugh Laurie because she didn’t want to appear in a medical drama.

“I thought, ‘I don’t want do a medical show, that doesn’t sound very fun to me’. I started asking my friends [about it] and they all went, ‘Are you an idiot? Have you ever seen it?’ I felt stupid for ever thinking that. I rented a bunch of the seasons… and I was really blown away,” she said.

Tamblyn said that the character is partly based on a real-life medical student, also called Martha Masters.

“They made her sign a release saying she wouldn’t sue Fox,” she said.

“I’m not saying anything out of turn or mean about her, but she’s incredibly brilliant and sometimes she can be very socially awkward.”

Amber recently insisted she doesn’t care what’s written about her in the tabloids.
