Denzel Washington not bothered by Oscars

Denzel Washington insists he doesn’t make films to win awards. The actor — who has been awarded two Golden Globe awards, a Tony Award and two Academy Awards for his work — says industry accolades are simply a byproduct of doing a good job.

“Awards, and to be recognized, are great,” he said.

“But I never made a film to win an Oscar. Lord knows, I didn’t think I was going to win one for Training Day. But you can’t go into it that way. That’s like, every time I write, this is going to be my Pulitzer Prize-winning article. You don’t know. You try to do good work and see what happens.”

Denzel has previously insisted he doesn’t take his work work home with him.

“I’m not a leading man,” he said earlier this year.

“I’m an actor. You get a part and you interpret the part. But the characters I play don’t touch me after I’m finished. I just shake them off.

“Maybe when you step into other people’s shoes a little piece of them stays with you because you’ve sort of lived their lives. But I don’t take it home with me.”
