Alexander McQueen memorial takes place in London

Tragic Alexander McQueen was remembered at a memorial service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Stars including Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss and Vogue editor Anna Wintour stepped out to pay their respects to the iconic fashion designer — who was found dead in London home this February after taking his own life — alongside family and friends.

Reverend Canon Giles Fraser opened the ceremony with a tribute to McQueen.

“It was a life lived in the public gaze, but it was as vulnerable and retiring as it was glamorous,” the reverend said. “Despite the dazzle of his world, he never forgot his East End roots and how much he owed to his loved ones.”

Singer Bjork and a Scottish piper playing Braveheart accompanied the emotional service with music.

The 40-year-old designer — real name Lee McQueen — was named British designer of the year four times between 1996 and 2003 and was also awarded the CBE for his work in the fashion industry.

He was discovered hanged dead in the wardrobe of his flat in London’s upmarket Mayfair district after taking a cocktail of cocaine, sleeping pills and tranquilizers.
