Zac Efron wants cool young directors
Zac Efron has said that he wants to take greater control over own career and find new directors with his recently-founded production company.
The High School Musical actor will reportedly star in a remake of Swedish thriller Snabba Cash in one movie produced by his Ninjas Runnin’ Wild venture, which operates under Warner Bros.
Asked if he wanted a stronger hand in his own career, Efron told Wonderland: “Yeah absolutely, I’ve just started my own production company and something that I’m working on right now is finding cool young directors.
“There’s so much young talent our there and these guys aren’t afraid to try new things. The whole producing thing is very new to me but I find it fascinating. You know, finally things to develop and not just waiting for scripts to come in because they don’t.”
Asked if it was a ‘step too far’ for him to emulate the controversial roles portrayed by former young heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio in films like The Basketball Diaries, Efron said: “It’s a different time right now. Not to blame it on that.
“Of course I’d love to go and do that kind of stuff, but it’s harder to get those things made now. It’s about finding those roles but I wouldn’t just do it, you know, I have to feel it in here [puts his fist to his chest]. Leo’s strengths are, I’d say, different.
“He carved out his own path and found those roles and they were all unique to him. I’m not gonna try to copy him, I’ve gotta find my own path, whatever that is. I don’t know what it is, I’m still exploring – just every day, figuring it out.”
Efron also claimed that he follows his heart in choosing roles and tries to bring things that are “different” and “cool” to an audience that he knows.
