Prince William and Kate Middleton to tie the knot in 2012

Prince William and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton will marry in 2012 — before the London Olympics, according to a new report. The couple — who have been together for several years — will tie the knot in the spring, as they want their big day around the time when the world’s spotlight is on London — for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June and the Games which start July 27.

“William and Kate are both aware a royal wedding followed by the jubilee celebrations and the Olympics will really put Britain on the map again,” a source told Britain’s News of The World newspaper.

“This will be a landmark occasion. The Chinese may have put on a great show for the last Olympics but nobody can do royal pomp like we can. It will be spectacular.

“There is no doubt that Kate is the right girl for William. Their future together is sealed.

“The powers that be, and I mean right to the top, see this as the perfect opportunity to secure the monarchy at the heart of the people at a time when the media focus is on our country.”

“Kate will be at William’s side as his wife for the jubilee in the Olympic year, but their reasoning not to wed before then is simply that it will focus undue attention on them before they want it.

“Today they live in relative peace. They enjoy a life like no other royal couple before them. As soon as they wed they know Kate will become public property. There is no need to put undue pressure on themselves right now.”
