Meryl Streep ‘honoured’ by Oscars nomination

OHMYGOSSIP — Meryl Streep is “honoured beyond measure” at receiving her 21st Oscar nomination.
The 68-year-old actress broke her own record as the most nominated performer of all time when the nominations for the 2018 awards ceremony were announced on Tuesday (23.01.18), as she bagged her 21st nod for her role as publisher Katharine Graham in ‘The Post’.
Speaking about her nomination for Best Actress, the star said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times: “I am honoured beyond measure by this nomination for a film I love, a film that stands in defence of press freedom, and inclusion of women’s voices in the movement of history. Proud of the film, and all her filmmakers. Thank you from a full heart.”
Meryl’s 21st nod puts her nine nominations ahead of Katharine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson, who have each earned 12 nods throughout their careers.
Despite Meryl’s nomination, her co-star Tom Hanks was snubs by the shortlists, marking the 18th year in which he has failed to find himself nominated for an Academy Award.
Meanwhile, Meryl recently admitted she was “shocked” at Tom’s continued snub by the Academy, as she hoped things would change for this year’s ceremony.
Speaking before the nominations were revealed, she said: “That he hasn’t been nominated in 17 years, I’m actually shocked, because the work we’ve seen is at such a consistently high level. And this role [in The Post] of Ben Bradlee, in particular, has a dynamism. Tom steps outside of anything we’ve seen before.”
Elsewhere in the nominations announcement – which was delivered by Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis following an announcement by Academy president John Bailey – ‘The Shape of Water’ managed to pick up an impressive 13 nods in total.
For this year’s ceremony, Jimmy Kimmel is returning to host the Academy Awards which are set to take place at the Dolby Theatre, in Hollywood, on Sunday March 4.
