Sarah McLachlan bemoans divorce

Singer Sarah McLachlan says there “are not many benefits” when it comes to getting divorced. The 42-year-old star — who recently split from her husband, Ashwin Sood, the longtime drummer in her band — admits she likes having a break from her kids, but — all in all — isn’t a fan of being alone.

“There are not many benefits of separation,” McLachlan told the Los Angeles Times newspaper. “One small benefit is that my daughters go to Dad’s a couple of days a week. And so there are those mornings when I wake up and have the place to myself.”

Sarah says the life that’s inspiring her current music is “terribly pedestrian”.

“There’s nothing special about it,” she said. “Half the bloody world is going through a divorce, more than that are having children. All of us have parents who are dying, or have died. It’s just the life cycle.”
