Annette Bening has no plans to take on more work

Hollywood stalwart Annette Bening has no plans to take on more work! The actress — who is married American actor and director Warren Beatty, with whom she has four children — stars in two films this year: The Kids Are All Right and Mother and Child.

But Bening — who has been doing one film a year for the past few years — is adamant she won’t work more frequently going forward.

“I have four kids — three teenagers and a 10 year old,” she said. “It’s really that. I did two plays last year; I’ve actually worked more in the last year than I have recently. But these movies were both done last year in Los Angeles, so I could handle it.

“I have all these conditions on which I can work. But I’ve been able to pretty much keep my craft and — just from a selfish point of view — do something that I’m interested in doing. And I love it, and I find it very intriguing and difficult.

“I can’t do plays in New York, not for a while. Hopefully I can come back when my kids are bigger and I can get away. But I like not being in the business. I like doing other things, and getting away, and reading, and seeing my friends. I mean it’s always ‘busy; with four children; it’s chaos.

“But it’s different than trying to work all the time. And I have friends who do, and it’s really hard. So I feel lucky that I can stop and start.”

Bening, 52, has previously admitted she needs her work to stop her from going “crazy”.

“[Work is] very important,” she said earlier this year. “It can make you crazy not having that kind of intellectual stimulation and not using your brain, especially with tiny ones — that can really make you insane.

“In a way, women aren’t supposed to acknowledge that and [are suppose to] pretend that it’s all just fabulous and we love every moment and it’s just a wonder, and of course, it is a wonder, but it’s also tiring and really, really hard work and a lot of the time your life is not about you, it’s about what everyone else wants.

“In a way that’s a stage you basically never get out of. There’s that selflessness you need to find, and on the other hand, you hire a babysitter and you go out and you do your work.”
