Robert Pattinson says he was “flat broke” before landing his breakthrough role in the Twilight movie

The British actor, who shot to fame playing vampire Edward Cullen in the smash hit film franchise, says he almost quit acting because he needed to find a way to pay his bills.

“I was flat broke,” he said. “If you say you’re an actor and you’re going to auditions and not getting parts, you’re not an actor.”

Rob, 24, recently joked that he wants to start his own religion.

“I definitely want to record an album, direct a film and start my own religion,” he told the German edition of Glamour magazine.

“Well, I definitely wouldn’t have to pay taxes anymore.”
