Jonathan Ross: I’m taking a gap year

Jonathan Ross has revealed that he is planning to take a break from television after he leaves the BBC.

The broadcaster will next month film the final episode of his Friday night chatshow and also bow out from his Saturday morning Radio 2 slot as his contract with the corporation comes to an end.

Writing on Twitter yesterday, Ross confirmed: “I have decided that after my shows finish in three weeks… gap year!!!”

He added: “When I say gap year I will still be twittering and writing comics. So maybe need new phrase? Any thoughts…”

Last week, it was reported that Ross is in talks to move his chatshow to ITV in 2011. Sources said that it could air on Friday nights or on Saturdays after The X Factor.

Ross has also been confirmed to host this year’s British Comedy Awards on Channel 4.
