Cowell excited about global ‘Got Talent’
Simon Cowell has admitted that he is excited about the idea of a worldwide Got Talent competition. It was reported over the weekend that the reality TV judge has started planning for a global spinoff of the talent show, which could potentially feature acts from over 80 countries.
“Spelbound or Diversity would represent England… that really excites me,” the 50-year-old told The Mirror at last night’s BAFTAs ceremony.
“I like the idea of England taking on other countries. And after the Eurovision disaster we have got to do something about that. There is an incredible amount of talent around the world at the moment and that’s why we make the shows.”
He was previously critical of the one-off 2003 World Idol show, which was won by Norway’s Kurt Nilsen, claiming that it turned winning acts into losers and that the other judges were copying his abrasive style. However, Cowell has hinted that he could work alongside Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden as co-commentators on this new show, and the programme could operate without judges.
Cowell took home the BAFTA Special Award in recognition for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry last night.
