Christina Aguilera blown away by Idol Stevens

Christina Aguilera has said that when she heard Katie Stevens singing ‘Beautiful’ on last night’s American Idol finale she briefly wondered if it was a recording of herself.

The 17-year-old took to the stage alongside the other female finalists to perform a medley of that track and Aguilera’s ‘Fighter’ before the singer joined them on stage with a rendition of her new single ‘You Lost Me’.

Speaking on Ryan Seacrest‘s KIIS-FM show, she said: “When that one contestant came on and did, ‘I am beautiful’, I was like, ‘Is that me, real quick, on the record?!’

“She did so good! I told her – because she was talking about how she grew up listening to me – that I could tell because you did a fantastic job. I was really blown away.”

The star continued to say that it was “magical” for her to see the contestants interpreting her work, saying: “Especially that song (‘Beautiful’) in particular, it’s all about individuality and bringing your own voice to the table and feeling proud of yourself. I had no words of advice for them, I just thought they were so great on their own.

“During the rehearsal they were a foot away from me and I was watching them. I was so proud of them, they were so beautiful.”

Last night’s show saw Lee DeWyze crowned the ninth winner of American Idol while Crystal Bowersox scooped second place.
