Modern Family climbs to 9.8 million
Modern Family pulled in 9.82m for ABC on Wednesday night, early viewing figures show. The mockumentary, which this week guest starred Fred Willard, added 1m on its last instalment two weeks ago.
Also in the 9pm hour, Fox’s American Idol climbed to 19.39m for Siobhan Magnus’s departure. Earlier, a rerun of Lie To Me put in 5.28m.
Back on ABC, Cougar Town picked up a respectable 6.45m at 9.30pm, after which the long-awaited premiere of Happy Town managed just 5.23m. In the 8pm hour, a repeat of The Middle interested 5.32m, then a new episode brought in 7.11m.
Elsewhere, all-night repeats on CBS fared well: New Adventures of Old Christine and Two and a Half Men managed 5.28m and 6.34m from 8pm, Criminal Minds averaged a strong 8.81m at 9pm, and 7.73m tuned in for CSI: New York at 10pm.
Over on NBC, Minute To Win It, Mercy and Law & Order: SVU delivered 5.23m, 4.96m and 9.37m respectively.
America’s Next Top Model logged a reasonable 3.27m for The CW, then Fly Girls and High Society took 1.03m and 910k.

Modern Family is an American mockumentary comedy TV series. The half-hour series, which was created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, is produced by Fox Television Studios. The mockumentary follows the families of Jay Pritchett (Ed O’Neill), his daughter Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), and his son Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) who live in Los Angeles. Claire is a homemaker mom married to Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell); they have three children. Jay is married to a much younger Colombian woman, Gloria (Sofía Vergara), and is helping her raise her pre-teen son. Mitchell and his partner Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) have adopted a Vietnamese baby, Lily. The show premiered on ABC on September 23, 2009 to critical acclaim. It has even been named as a big contender for the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.
On January 12, 2010, Modern Family was renewed for a second season by ABC.
