Mary Berry lands baking show role

OHMYGOSSIP — Mary Berry has landed a judging role on a baking show.
The former ‘Great British Bake Off’ star will appear on the programme’s US spin-off, ‘The Great American Baking Show’, on which 10 bakers battle it out over eight themed episodes featuring 24 challenges in a bid to be crowned the best baker.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding’s Nia Vardalos and husband Ian Gomez will host the American series, which will start with a two-hour premiere in the US on Thursday (01.12.16).
‘The Great American Baking Show’ is created by Love Productions, who sold the ‘Bake Off’ rights to Channel 4 after they outbid the BBC, leaving Mary to quit her role on the programme.
The former ‘Bake Off’ co-judge left the programme “out of loyalty” to the BBC following the news Channel 4 will air the show from next year.
Co-hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins also the quit the programme, admitting they had no intention to “go with the dough”.
They said in a statement: “We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.
The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 million at its peak.
We’ve had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.
We’re not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.”
However, Mary’s co-judge Paul Hollywood opted to remain on the show, signing a three-year deal with Channel 4.
The channel are thought to have splashed out around £75 million over three years for ‘Bake Off’, which will begin with a Stand Up To Cancer special next year.
