Lil Wayne (27) has reportedly arrived at Rikers Island in New York, where he is to serve a one-year jail sentence for gun possession, People reports.
The rapper (real name Dwayne Carter) arrived at the prison complex early this morning following his sentencing yesterday. In October, he pleaded guilty to weapons charges relating to his arrest in 2007, when a gun was found on his tour bus. The star has reportedly been placed in protective custody away from other inmates. He recently vowed to keep writing songs while behind bars.
Reports suggest that Wayne is likely to be released in eight months time if he behaves well in prison. His lawyer Stacey Richman said: “He knew what he had to do, and he is doing it.”
