“Bridget Jones” set for TV adaptation
“Bridget Jones´s Diary” will reportedly be adapted into a TV spin-off series, according to reports. The Guardian understands that the romantic movie, which starred Renee Zellweger, is being worked on by NBC Universal and Working Title, mediates Digitalspy.
The two production companies plan to eventually rework a number of films from the Working Title’s library of over 90 British theatrical releases – including Billy Elliot, Notting Hill & Nanny McPhee – which would air in the US.
President of NBC Universal International, Pete Smith, said the success of ITV1´s spin-off drama Law & Order: UK was encouraging. “We have a tremendous reservoir at NBC, yet this hasn’t really been done much before,” Smith revealed.
It was announced last year that “Bridget Jones 3” was in production, but Zellweger recently played down the sequel.
