Carrie-Anne Moss admits her future in The Matrix is uncertain
OHMYGOSSIP — Carrie-Anne Moss is unsure if she will return for another follow-up to ‘The Matrix’.
The 57-year-old actress reprised her role as Trinity opposite Keanu Reeves’ Neo after 18 years for the 2021 legacy sequel ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’ though has now admitted that she doesn’t know if her action heroine will appear in the franchise going forward.
Speaking with MovieWeb, ‘The Acolyte’ star said: “I loved going back, and that was certainly a big surprise. I did not see that coming. So, I mean, who knows, you know? I don’t.
“I kind of just take my life as it comes, and you just don’t ever know.”
While her future in the sci-fi series remains up in the air, Moss emphasised that she is still close with Reeves.
She said: “We’re good friends. A lot of the moms at my daughter’s school are all in love with him. It’s so funny, so cute.”
Despite the underwhelming performance at the box office for ‘The Matrix Resurrections’, Warner Bros. announced earlier this year that a fifth instalment in the franchise was in development, though the studio did not confirm whether Reeves or Moss would be reprising their respective roles in the upcoming flick.
The movie will be helmed by ‘The Martian’ filmmaker Drew Goddard – making the blockbuster the first project in the series not to be directed by either of the franchise’s creators Lana or Lilly Wachowski – although the latter will be involved as an executive producer.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, Warner Bros. Discovery chief Jesse Ehrman previously teased the story would progress the fantasy world without straying from the franchise’s unique identity.
In a statement, Ehrman said: “Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the ‘Matrix’ world, by both honouring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters.
“The entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery is thrilled for Drew to be making this new ‘Matrix’ film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis’ spent a quarter of a century building here at the studio.”
