‘It was a trip down memory lane’ Larry Lamb’s ’emotional’ Gavin and Stacey finale

OHMYGOSSIP — Larry Lamb says filming the ‘Gavin and Stacey’ finale was “so emotional”, and he has teased a “beautiful” ending to the series.
The 77-year-old actor will reprise his role as Mick Shipman in the last-ever episode of the BBC sitcom, which will air on Christmas Day (25.12.24), and Larry admitted the process was even more poignant than usual because they shot the final scenes on the last days of filming.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “It was a trip down memory lane. Because suddenly there we are, and we’re facing the fact that effectively this is the end of this adventure – it’s the end of this journey and it was so emotional.
“On the last day of filming, we were filming the end of the story which is so unusual because nine times out of ten you find that you’re doing the end on the first day and you’re doing the beginning right at the end of it all.
“So what we were filming was the end of the story on the very last day and there was just this mental tick, tick, tick going on all the time and the emotions just kept building and building and building … [the ending] is just beautiful.”
‘Gavin and Stacey’ co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones shocked the nation earlier this year by revealing the programme is to return for a finale, which will be the first episode since a 2019 Christmas special.
Larry had a “tickle” in his throat while appearing on the show, and it was later discovered by ‘GMB’ host Susanna Reid that it was down to the after-effects of the “wonderful” wrap party to mark the end of ‘Gavin and Stacey’ filming.
The ex-‘EastEnders’ star said: “Well they did have a big party and James and Ruth really pushed the boat out.
“It was a wonderful party.”
While the upcoming Christmas special has been widely billed as the last-ever episode, Larry admitted he would be up for starring in another episode.
Quizzed on whether he is “absolutely sure it’s the end”, Larry replied: “What you wanna do is you wanna get James and Ruth on here and question them because that’s where it all comes from.”
Asked if he would like to make another episode, he said: “Yeah. You become a family.”
