David Gandy explains why women in fashion should always be paid more than men

OHMYGOSSIP — David Gandy thinks women in fashion should always be paid more than men.
The 44-year-old catwalk star has spent years modelling for top brands including Dolce and Gabbana, Hugo Boss, and Carolina Herrera, but admitted that as one of the few men in his industry against the likes of Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, his female contemporaries should “of course” earn more money because they traditionally have a bigger audience.
Speaking on UK TV show ‘Lorraine’, he said: “Not many men had broken that glass ceiling in a very female-dominated industry. It was the likes of Naomi and Kate, and Christy Turlington that I aspired to.
“They had a platform and I kind of followed that in the men’s side of the industry. I’ve always said ‘but no-one knew of a male model’….Kate, Naomi – you know who you’re talking about.
“So of course they are selling more, they’re engaging more, bringing the fans, people and sales to that brand. So of course they should be paid more. I’m never going to complain about that. It was just up to me and my team to get me up to that level as well.”
David – who started his career when he won a competition on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ in 2001 – previously admitted that despite his success, it can be a “very lonely place” in the fashion world.
He told the The Times magazine: “Being in the fashion world is a lonely job. You’re travelling so much on your own. My partner thought I was mad when we first started dating. She’d say: ‘What did you do last night?’ I’d say: ‘I had dinner on my own, then I was in another country and went to the spa on my own.’ She couldn’t believe it.”
Watch ‘Lorraine’ weekdays from 9am on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player
