David Gandy’s ‘lonely’ life as a model

OHMYGOSSIP — David Gandy says modelling is a “lonely job”.
The 43-year-old catwalk star has spent years working for top brands including Dolce and Gabbana, Hugo Boss and Carolina Herrera, and featured in magazines across the world, but he’s admitted life as a model can be incredibly isolating because he ends up spending so much time on his own.
He told the The Times magazine: “Being in the fashion world is a lonely job. You’re travelling so much on your own. My partner thought I was mad when we first started dating. She’d say: ‘What did you do last night?’ I’d say: ‘I had dinner on my own, then I was in another country and went to the spa on my own.’ She couldn’t believe it.”
David went on to reveal another big drawback of working in fashion is the jetlag from long-haul travel, but he is convinced it has prepared him for life as a dad.
He added: “I’ve been jetlagged for 20 years. It put me in good stead for having children. My wife did the early mornings. I always did the nights. I’d say, ‘Go to bed, get a good night’s sleep. I’m used to this’.
“I was like the dog. My wife would find me either asleep on the floor, in the children’s beds or on the landing.”
David revealed the secret to staying in shape, confessing he never eats breakfast but he loads up on pasta later in the day to meet his calorie requirements because he need to consume 3,500 to 4,000 calories a day.
He also explained his go-to style is as simple as possible – especially when it comes to choosing T-shirts. He added: “I have a thing about logo T-shirts on grown men. Over the age of 15, just go for a plain T-shirt. I’ve got a very old school style. George Clooney does it very well. He just looks good. That to me, is style. When men ask: ‘What’s on trend?’ I always say: ‘I have no idea, but I’lll tell you what looks good.”
