Melvin Odoom considering stand-up comedy career

OHMYGOSSIP — Melvin Odoom is considering a stand-up comedy career after some praise from his pal Romesh Ranganathan.
The 42-year-old star – who is best known for being a radio DJ on Kiss and BBC Radio 1 – has been encouraged to test the stand-up comedy waters after Romesh told him he has “good comic timing”.
He said: “It’s a real test of whether you’re funny. Audiences don’t mess around. If they don’t find something funny they’re not going to laugh. So I would love to do that.
“In fact, I was with Romesh years ago and we were doing a panel show and he said, ‘Melv, you actually have good comic timing’.
“This could be a new career but I would have to do it in the most obscure part of the world where no one knows me.”
But Melvin believes if he launches a stand-up career in the UK then people would “expect” him to be “good” because of his years on the radio.
He added to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “If I do it here then everyone would expect me to be good because I have been on the radio.
“Everyone expects you to have funny content. But stand-up is an art and you have to test material.”
Melvin previously revealed he and his pal and fellow radio DJ Rickie Haywood-Williams had held secret meetings about appearing on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’.
Revealing in March 2021 that they had been approached, Melvin said: “We have been asked to do ‘I’m A Celebrity’.
“We had a meeting with the team, and we’re both really scared of any bugs, any animals. Rickie did the spin-off, ‘Extra Camp’, and he had to do one of the tasks, he was freaking out … I’d be too, too scared.”
