Hotel Boss reality show to ‘search for the next Basil Fawlty’

OHMYGOSSIP — TV producers are to search for a real-life Basil Fawlty in an upcoming reality show.
The new series, which currently has the working title ‘Hotel Boss’, will look for the country’s best hotel managers, and in doing so will uncover some of the worst in the process.
Cynical and snobbish hotelier Basil Fawlty was a fictional character played by John Cleese in iconic British sitcom ‘Fawlty Towers’.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “The new programme, which has the working title of ‘Hotel Boss’, will put wannabe winners through their paces with a series of challenges, to see if they can deliver five-star service to some tricky customers.
“Some will appear triumphant while others are likely, if not expected, to fail miserably. Either way, it promises to be great entertainment.
“And it can’t fail to conjure up hilarious memories of Basil, who will go down as one of the worst hotel bosses in history.”
TV production company South Shore is behind the pilot, and is also the brains behind shows such as ITV’s ‘Cooking with the Stars’.
The pilot is yet to be filmed, but if successful it is though ITV and Channel 4 could both be keen to snap it up.
‘Fawlty Towers’, which was written by John and Connie Booth, was broadcast on BBC Two from 1975 to 1979 with 12 episodes airing across two series.
In 2019, it was named the best British sitcom of all time by a panel of comedy experts compiled by the Radio Times magazine.
