Roman Kemp to front mental health documentary sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Roman Kemp is set to host a sequel to his mental health documentary.
The 29-year-old TV and radio presenter was left devastated after he lost his close friend and radio producer Joe Lyons to suicide in August 2020, and last year the BBC commissioned a one-hour documentary titled ‘Our Silent Emergency’ with Roman at the helm, which focused on male mental health.
The follow-up documentary, titled ‘Roman Kemp: Our School Emergency’, is being filmed and is expected to air on BBC Three early next year.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Roman identifies this as a very important area to explore within the wider issue of depression.
“As part of that he will be looking at the impact of mental health on young people – including schoolchildren – who are affected.
“It is believed that the issues in question often start in the very early years and that’s the point at which it is best to start assessing them.”
In last year’s documentary, Roman delved deep into his own mental health journey, in which he has battled severe depression from the age of 15 and has overcome suicidal thoughts.
In an emotional scene, Roman revealed to his mum, singer Shirlie Holliman – who shot to fame in the 1980s as one half of duo Pepsi and Shirlie, and was also a Wham! backing vocalist – about once coming close to ending his own life.
He said: “It’s really hard and it’s hard for me to tell you this…
“I thought about going to the train station and jumping in front of a train. I’m sorry I never told you that.”
