Lee Mack to host Royal Variety Performance

OHMYGOSSIP — Lee Mack is to host this year’s Royal Variety Performance.
The 54-year-old comedian will front the annual performance – which features a slew of acts from across the entertainment industry and has been attended by senior members of the British royal family almost every year since 1919 – and joked that he was intending to buy tickets for the event, but is “saving a few quid” by taking on the hosting job.
He said: “I was actually going to buy tickets for this year’s Royal Variety Performance, so not only is it a real honour to be asked to host it, it’s also saved me a few quid. I now just have to work out the logistics of introducing these brilliant acts and also rushing back to my seat to watch them.”
This year, the event is set to take place in December at the Royal Albert Hall and will be broadcast on ITV and will feature a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth – who passed away in September at the age of 96 following a 70-year reign – with legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, former Take That star Gary Barlow and Gareth Malone accompanied by members of the London Youth Choir all coming together perform a very special version of ‘Sing’.
Other stars lined up to perform at the Royal Variety include the likes of Disco Soul R and B sensations Nile Rodgers and Chic, BRIT Award winner George Ezra, pop stars Ellie Goulding and Becky Hill as well as Eurovision star Sam Ryder.
From the world of musical theatre, the multi-Olivier award-winning production of ‘Cabaret’ will also take to the stage, followed by an extract from new Disney musical ‘Newsies’, ahead of its UK premiere in London later this month.
‘The Royal Variety Performance’ is to take place at the Royal Albert Hall and will be broadcast on ITV in December.
