OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Palin is quitting his travel shows.
The 79-year-old presenter – who had heart surgery in 2019 – revealed his recent trip to Iraq for a new Channel 5 series will be among his final ones.
He told the Mirror: “I don’t know where I want to go now. People say where are you going to now? I say the chemist.
“I feel enormously privileged and grateful that I’ve done as much travelling as I have in the last 35 years.
“There have been good times, interesting times, exciting times, and adventure. But at a certain point you do have to be careful about what you do next.”
However, he hinted that he could be convinced to return.
He said: “I think one has to do the work, make the programmes, and then assess how they’re received, and the audience reception will either encourage me to get my boots on again or decide for me to hang them up for good.
“Going Into Iraq was a really enjoyable experience with a great team.
“Channel 5 seem quite keen on taking me to places where I could get killed.
“But I quite like the three week thing, We work incredibly hard and everyone is trying to do their very best work and it comes up brilliantly. But I can do that for about three weeks, I think. Then we need to really stop.
“And I think perhaps that’s the future, we’ll find somewhere else which is dangerous and go there and try to survive.”
