Dara O’Briain hits back at Andrew Neill after Mock the Week comment

OHMYGOSSIP — Dara O’Briain has hit back at Andrew Neill, after he said ‘Mock the Week’ “deserved to be cancelled”.
The 50-year-old TV presenter has hosted the BBC Two comedy panel show since it began in 2005, but it was confirmed this week that the programme is to end after more than 17 years.
Following the news, broadcaster Andrew retweeted a Spectator article entitled “Mock the Week deserved to be cancelled”.
In response, Dara took a swipe at Andrew, who resigned as chairman and lead presenter of GB News in September 2021 just three months after he helped to launch the channel.
Dara tweeted: “Still, at least I didn’t bail on it after two weeks and f*** off to my house in France, eh Andrew? All the best! X (sic)”
But Dara’s tweet led to him having some “enjoyable” conversations with ‘Mock the Week’ fans about the show on social media, and the comedian joked supporters shouldn’t worry about him having work.
The star joked he is going to be in the new ‘Batgirl’ movie, which was scrapped by Warner Bros. this week, despite already being filmed.
He wrote: “Have really enjoyed all the chat about Mock today. It’s been really sweet, thank you, and people have been kindly checking I still have work after this. Of course I do! Exciting news: I’m in the new Batgirl movie! I got an e-mail today about release dates, must check that. (sic)”
Dara confirmed this week that ‘Mock the Week’ – which has featured panellists including Hugh Dennis, Frankie Boyle, Chris Addison, Russell Howard, and Ed Byrne over the years – is to end after more than 17 years.
He said in a statement: “That’s it folks, the UK has finally run out of news.
“The storylines were getting crazier and crazier – global pandemics, divorce from Europe, novelty short-term prime ministers. It couldn’t go on.
“And so, regretfully, we are closing the doors on Dara and Hugh’s Academy for Baby Comedians. We just couldn’t be more silly than the news was already.
“Huge thanks to all our guests over the years, so many of whom went on to huge successes of their own, and never write or call. It was a joy!”
The BBC said in a statement: “We are really proud of the show but after 21 series we have taken the difficult decision in order to create room for new shows.”
