Home and Away’ shares heartfelt tribute to axed soap Neighbours

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Home and Away’ has paid tribute to ‘Neighbours’.
The Australian soap took to social media to praise “the amazing cast and crew” of their rival show, after the last ever episode of the programme – which began in 1985 – aired Down Under.
Home and Away’s official Twitter account posted on Thursday (28.07.22): “Hats off to the amazing cast and crew at Ramsay Street for an epic 37 years. @neighbours will forever be an iconic part of Australian television history.
“From everyone here in the Bay, massive respect and admiration for you all.”
In response, the ‘Neighbours’ account quote tweeted the post, and added: “Big love to Summer Bay [yellow heart emoji].”
The finale – which is airing on Friday (29.07.22) in the UK at 9pm on Channel 5 – will see some big names return to the soap, including Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce and Margot Robbie.
Lynne McGregor – who brings to life Irene Roberts on ‘Home and Away’ – also shared her “love” to ‘Neighbours’.
The 69-year-old actress tweeted: “A huge shoutout to all the #Neighbours cast and crew. Past and present. Chookas for the future and thanks for the memories.
“I’m in the UK atm so will miss ( or have missed) the finale, but will be sure to check it out when I return. Biggest love from a fellow #AussieSoap person. (sic)”
‘Neighbours’ was announced to be ending earlier this year after producer Fremantle failed to find a new home for the Channel 5 programme.
Stefan Dennis – who played Ramsay Street’s resident baddie businessman Paul Robinson since the show’s inception – recently defended the network’s decision to pull the plug on ‘Neighbours’ admitting it was just an “economic” decision.
The 63-year-old actor said: “It’s just an economic decision, and in business, that’s what happens. That happens in business every single day.
“If a show can’t get the income for the outgoings, then of course, no business is going to hang onto that. It doesn’t matter how sentimental.”
