BBC star Jan Leeming ‘tackled to the ground’ in cashpoint mugging

OHMYGOSSIP — Jan Leeming was mugged at a cashpoint.
The 80-year-old presenter – who is best known for her long stint as a BBC newsreader in the 1980s – was in a sleepy village in Provence, France over the weekend when she was “tackled to the ground” and took to Twitter on Sunday (24.07.22) to tell fans about the incident.
She tweeted: “Horrid experience. Attacked close to ATM. Youngish man seemed pleasant. He asked me if I spoke French and extended his hand. I thought it was a friendly gesture. Held out [my] hand like a first-rate idiot. That’s when he tackled me to the ground.”
However, the former ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me out of Here’ star went on to reassure her followers that the attackers did not take anything valuable and while the whole ordeal was “horrid”, she is now “absolutely fine.”
She added: “Bag was over my arm. He didn’t get it. It was horrid but well orchestrated with a getaway car. My head was very close to an oncoming car. Please don’t worry. I’m absolutely fine – not traumatized one little bit. Just sore with a few bruises… Thank you all so much for your warmth and good wishes.”
The veteran broadcaster was inundated with messages of support on her social media but later explained that there is unlikely to be any legal action because she could not make out who the attacker was because he was wearing a mask.
She said: “He had on a Covid mask and the getaway car took a quick left turn so friends couldn’t see number plate. Police Municipale was closed. Hell will freeze before they find the culprits!”
