Will Young would be up for a judging slot on a Pop Idol reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Young is up for a judging role on a ‘Pop Idol’ reboot.
The first winner of the short-lived ITV singing competition says being involved with any potential revamp “would be fun” as he believes there is a gap in the TV schedule for such a show, but he has a few caveats before he would sign up.
The 43-year-old singer told the Metro newspaper’s Guilty Pleasures column: “I have heard the rumours but I don’t know anything concrete. I think it would be fun if it was done in the right way. Because there’s no ‘X Factor’, it’d be brilliant.”
Will thinks it would be “interesting” to bring the show back as it had such a limited run with only two seasons ever made, with the follow-up edition being won by Michelle McManus in 2003.
He said: “There were only ever two series of ‘Pop Idol’, so it could be interesting, a laugh.”
But Will stipulated he would join the programme if it was “done properly” with safeguarding for the contestants’ mental health.
He said: “There would have to be a wellbeing coach for me to do it, to make sure everything was done properly.
“I couldn’t do it and not feel that people were being looked after.”
The ‘Will Young: Losing My Twin Rupert’ documentary maker says his dream judging panel would include singer-songwriter Griff and BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo.
Will said: “Griff would be interesting. Also Laura Marling and maybe Clara Amfo, because she knows about music from another side.
“Imagine if they were judges and I was lying.”
