Eurovision star Sam Ryder hurt in scooter crash weeks before finals

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Ryder was struggling to walk after a scooter crash in Madrid.
The 32-year-old singer – who will represent the United Kingdom in the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ next month – narrowly avoided serious injury in the accident earlier this week, and he’s slowly but surely on the mend.
He told the Metro newspaper’s Guilty Pleasures column: “I was going down this hill on the way back to the hotel, turned a sharp 45-degree corner, and the brake didn’t work.
“I flew off into a metal bollard – I’m very lucky it got my knee and not my head.
“It’s starting to feel better because I couldn’t walk yesterday [Tuesday] but now I can hobble about a bit.”
The singer admitted he will be playing it safe now in the build-up to ‘Eurovision’.
He added: “I do a lot of things where you can get hurt – snowboarding, surfing, stuff like that… but singing is most important to me, so I won’t take risks.”
The UK doesn’t have the best track record in the competition, with 2021’s representative James Newman scoring the dreaded ‘nil points’ – but the TikTok star isn’t feeling the pressure.
He explained: “To sing and perform alongside amazing talent from all around Europe, and celebrate songwriting and music and performance as a whole, those are the facts you need to focus on… all the rest is noise.”
Sam recently insisted he does not wish to dwell on the past and is thrilled to get to compete with his single ‘Space Man’.
He said: “I have made myself have a better relationship with fear.
“Going into ‘Eurovision’, I don’t want to have any fear around the scoreboard.
“As a UK artist, people say things like, ‘Are you scared of this?’ and the answer is no. I am so enthusiastic because I am such a fan of ‘Eurovision’ and my friends and family are such fans. So it’s an honour and a privilege to be included in it.”
