Phillip Schofield: Young contestants are favourites to win Dancing On Ice

OHMYGOSSIP — Philip Schofield says young stars have the best chance of winning ‘Dancing On Ice’ because they aren’t afraid of getting injured.
The 59-year-old presenter hosts the figure skating show alongside his ‘This Morning’ sofa sharer Holly Willoughby, 40, and he always backs the youthful celebrities against the older competitors because they don’t get the fear factor and worry about falling on the ice.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Schofield said: “We’ve found that the younger you are, especially if you’re a dancer, then you have that bravery, the courage and, you know, you go for it.
“What we love is the fearless nature. Now, you can really only have that if you’re at the younger end of the age spectrum, when you know if you fall over it’s not going to break.”
The ITV show will be back on screens in January 2022 and this year’s star line-up includes, The Vamps guitarist Connor Ball, 25, ‘Love Island’ babe Liberty Poole, 21, BMX Olympic silver medalist Kye Whyte, 22, former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Brendan Cole, 45, 57-year-old Bez from The Happy Mondays, S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens, 43, Pussycat Dolls singer Kimberly Wyatt, 39, and ‘Coronation Street’ actress Sally Dynevor, 58, among others.
Schofield can understand why the stars get scared when skating around the rink because it is a dangerous sport and you can get seriously injured.
He added: “It’s incredibly dangerous. Ice skates are fairly sharp. And so we’ve had some nasty cuts.
“We’ve had big falls. They’re great fun, so long as nobody hurts themselves.
The new series of ‘Dancing On Ice’ will welcome Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse to the judging panel. She will be joined by former Olympic figure skating champions Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill and Ashley Banjo.
Commenting on her new judging role, Oti said: “As a professional dancer I have always had so much respect for the skating professionals on ‘Dancing On Ice’.
“It is an exceptional skill that is also so beautiful to watch. I’m feeling really enthusiastic about joining the panel alongside the legendary Torvill and Dean and Ashley Banjo.”
