Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure is attracted to traditionally male roles

OHMYGOSSIP — Vicky McClure loves to take on roles which are traditionally played by men.
The 38-year-old actress – who is best known for playing Detective Inspector Kate Fleming in BBC police drama ‘Line of Duty’ – is always drawn to the male part “because that is the strong, committed role”.
She said: “That’s the kind of roles I love. I’ve sort of fallen into this genre. If I read a script, I often want to play the male’s role because that is the strong, committed role.”
Vicky will also be playing the head of bomb disposal Lana Washington in upcoming new ITV drama ‘Triggerpoint’ – which has been produced by ‘Line of Duty’ creator Jed Mercurio – a six-part thriller about Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad.
She discussed the similarities between her portrayal on ‘Line of Duty’ and her new alter ego and even though they are both very strong women, she doesn’t see them as similar people at all.
She said: “I can’t worry about taking roles that might feel like they’re in a similar vein.
“Lana and Kate are both very strong women. Very brave and committed. But I don’t see them as the same people at all.”
Vicky – who first came to prominence in English filmmaker Shane Meadows’ drama films ‘A Room for Romeo Brass’ and ‘This Is England’ – is eyeing up something completely different for her next project, a “funny romcom”.
She said: “I want to do a romcom. Something really light and funny would be lovely…for a bit of light relief.”
