Dan Walker thanks Nadiya Bychkova for helping him face his fear of the dancefloor

OHMYGOSSIP — Dan Walker has thanked Nadiya Bychkova for ridding him of his fear of the dancefloor.
The ‘BBC Breakfast’ presenter and his professional partner missed out on a place in this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ semi-finals after judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and Shirley Ballas voted to save AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington in the dreaded dance-off at the weekend.
However, the broadcaster is “proud” of himself for facing his fear and is no longer afraid to dance in front of others.
Speaking to Rylan Clark-Neal on sister show ‘Strictly – It Takes Two’ after the elimination, Dan said: “We did 10 weeks in the competition without ever being in the dance-off. Having never danced before and being fearful of a dancefloor when I first started out, to get to Week 11, we knew it was going to come at some stage because everyone in the competition is so good. The important thing is that the best four dancers are in the semi-final.”
Dan admitted he’s felt “tall, uncomfortable and awkward” his entire life and he’s grateful to Nadiya for giving him the confidence to shine on the dancefloor.
He added: “It does make me feel proud because watching a lot of those dances back, sometimes I think that couldn’t be me because I’ve genuinely avoided a dancefloor my whole life as I felt tall, uncomfortable and awkward. Nadiya opened all of that up for me and took me by the hand and said, ‘Come with me, I can show you that you can enjoy it and if you smile, the whole world will smile with you’. That’s a proper game-changer.”
The 44-year-old journalist was glad to go out on a high with his “best” routine of the series; a Tango to ‘Santa Maria’ by Gotan Project.
He said: “I told Nadiya last Monday, when she showed me the choreography, that I already loved it and I couldn’t wait to dance it on Saturday night! That was the best I’ve danced in my entire life in front of 10 million people – it was a good way to go out.”
The semi-finals kick off on Saturday (11.12.21) from 7.05pm on BBC One.
