OHMYGOSSIP – Taking a shower seems like an absolutely easy activity – you step in the water, wash yourself, rinse off the soap and then dry yourself. Surprisingly it is not that simple and many people make mistakes while undergoing their washing ritual, according to Huffington Post.

Indeed, the washing process is not as easy an activity as it may appear. Doctors Heather Woolery-Lloyd and Heidi Waldorf tell us which are the 4 most common mistakes made while taking a shower.

1. You stay under the hot running water for a long time
According to Woolery-Lloyd, staying under hot running water for too long completely removes the skin’s natural grease, leading to eczema and itching. She recommends taking a quick shower and instead of hot water use warm water.

2. You are using a shower gel that produces too much foam
The more foam and bubbles the soap produces, the more it removes the natural grease from the skin. The surfactant in the soap dries the skin. Replace the current shower gel with something with a weaker effect. Foam-free, gentle, odorless and allergy-free would be for example the quality-checked Nordic Elisheva & Shoshana “Dandelion and goat milk soap“.

3. You do not rinse the gel fully off the skin
Both specialists say, when the shower gel is not washed from the skin properly, this causes irritation and dryness of the skin. It of course depends on the gel, but the ingredients may remain on the skin and harm it.

4. You dry your skin rubbing it instead of dabbing
It plays a major role, how you dry your skin. Dabbing helps soothe dryness of the skin. Certainly, applying lotion is still important.
