Sally Carman was ‘pushed’ to her limits in Coronation Street stunt scenes

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ star Sally Carman was pushed to her limits by the “terrifying” stunts she had to film for Halloween week on the ITV soap.
The 46-year-old actress plays mechanic Abi Franklin in the series which will be rocked by a succession of disasters and horrifying incidents.
Viewers will see Dev, Aadi and Asha Alahan prepare to leave for their family holiday, but as the thunder crashes overhead they find themselves lost on a country road, chancing upon a prison van rushing injured drug dealer Harvey Gaskill to hospital.
The wrong turn will result in Dev having to make a ‘Sophie’s Choice’ style decision when there is a fireball car crash and he must make the heart-breaking decision of which of his kids he drags from the burning wreck, ultimately choosing to save Asha.
At the same time, Sally’s alter ego Abi will return to the cobbles armed with a gun, seeking revenge for the murder of her son Seb, who was killed earlier this year in a hate-fuelled attack.
As the storm intensifies the residents find themselves in the middle of a real life horror story with Abi, Corey, Jenny and Johnny trapped in rising water underground in the Victorian sewers.
The events – which take place on what is being called Super Soap Week – will result in a tragedy involving Gail Platt’s sinkhole at number 8 and will ultimately lead to the death of a well-loved character.
Sally is very proud of her acting in the scenes, especially how she was able to push her body to its limits for the nail-biting scenes.
She said: “We started off on the Monday and finished on Sunday. By Tuesday I felt I couldn’t do this – it was so cold and wet. As it went on, my body acclimatised. It was brilliant, such an experience to have all these amazing sets and gushing water and electrical sparks and falling through trap doors. It was epic and such hard work and it pushed me to my limits. I am so glad I got to do it.”
Spilling on the showpiece stunt, ‘Corrie’ boss Ian McCleod said: “We have a big stunt planned that will centre around the sinkhole in the Platt family’s back garden. And that will result in a death. Deaths only really work if it’s somebody that you really care about and it’s going to be somebody that viewers know and love.
McCleod also explained that a “subterranean universe” and ” an elaborate complex of tunnels and storm drains” had been built especially for the dramatic scenes which, despite her fear, Sally managed to get one particularly terrifying moment filmed in one take.
She said: “The last thing was the trapdoor into these piles of cardboard boxes and when they said cut I was like I am not doing that again. They got what they needed in one shot which is good because it was terrifying.”
Sally also warned that it could be Abi’s life that is at risk after the gun changes hands and Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) turns the weapon on her.
She said: “This gun goes about a bit so there’s a chance to have your say and have these discussions. It shows how little regard at this point Abi has for her own life so what can he do?”
