Piers Morgan feels ‘vindicated’ after Emma Raducanu’s success

OHMYGOSSIP — Piers Morgan felt “totally vindicated” following Emma Raducanu’s success at the US Open.
The 18-year-old tennis star won the tournament in New York City on Saturday night (11.09.21), and Piers – who previously accused Emma of buckling under pressure at Wimbledon earlier this year – thinks her shock success has vindicated his earlier criticism.
He wrote on Twitter: “From Wimbledon choker to US Open champion in 3 months…. never seen a more brilliant illustration of mental strength & resilience than @EmmaRaducanu ‘s win. That’s what elite sport is all about – facing up to loss/adversity & going again with no whining & steely determination. (sic)”
After it was suggested that Emma’s triumph was a “bad day” for Piers, he replied: “A bad day? I’ve been totally vindicated.
“She took my advice and won.”
Piers claimed Emma has proven she’s “made of tougher stuff” after her success in New York.
The teenage star ended Britain’s 44-year wait for a women’s Grand Slam singles champion by defeating Leylah Fernandez of Canada, and Piers hailed her victory on the micro-blogging platform.
He wrote: “Imagine if @EmmaRaducanu had taken Twitter’s advice & carried on ‘bravely’ and ‘heroically’ quitting and losing… thank God she’s made of tougher stuff & realised that winners don’t quit & have to learn how to handle the pressure. That’s why she’s Champion today. Congrats Emma [thumbs up emoji] (sic)”
Emma exited Wimbledon at the last-16 stage earlier this year, when she withdrew from a match on medical grounds.
Piers, 56, subsequently claimed she “couldn’t handle the pressure”.
He wrote on Twitter at the time: “Ms Raducuna’s a talented player but couldn’t handle the pressure & quit when she was losing badly. Not ‘brave’, just a shame. (sic)”
