Matt Smith tips Rhys Ifans as next Doctor Who

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Smith has tipped Rhys Ifans to be the new ‘Doctor Who’.
It was announced in July that Jodie Whittaker, 39, is leaving the show in 2022 after three series and Matt – who played the Eleventh Doctor – believes Rhys, 54, should replace her.
Matt, 38, told The Hollywood Reporter: “You know who I think would be a brilliant Doctor Who … Rhys Ifans. Rhys would be sort of cool. I don’t know if we’ve had a Welshman yet. I’m backing Rhys!”
And Rhys’ fellow Welshman Michael Sheen has also been tipped for the role, after betting odds on him were slashed this week.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Jodie Whittaker became the first female to play the Time Lord when she was named as the thirteenth Doctor Who in 2017, but confirmed she is quitting the role after the next series airs next year.
“Support has arrived for numerous candidates to replace her but this week it arrived for Michael Sheen who is now 8/1 from 14/1.”
Meanwhile, showrunner Chris Chibnall is also leaving the show along with Jodie, after revealing the pair had made a “three series and out” pact.
Jodie said: ““In 2017 I opened my glorious gift box of size 13 shoes. I could not have guessed the brilliant adventures, worlds and wonders I was to see in them. I will carry the Doctor and the lessons I’ve learnt forever.”
Chibnall said: “Jodie and I made a ‘three series and out’ pact with each other at the start of this once-in-a-lifetime blast. So now our shift is done, we’re handing back the Tardis keys.
“Jodie’s magnificent, iconic Doctor has exceeded all our high expectations. She’s been the gold-standard leading actor, shouldering the responsibility of being the first female Doctor with style, strength, warmth, generosity and humour.”
