Guy Pearce: Neighbours role was shock of my life

OHMYGOSSIP — Guy Pearce got the “shock of his life” when he landed a part on ‘Neighbours’.
The Hollywood actor won the role of Mike Young in the Australian soap in 1985 as an 18 year old, and he was surprised to join the soap because he had previously been warned by a drama school teacher that actors are often out of work.
He told Big Issue magazine: “The biggest surprise of my life was when I landed the role on ‘Neighbours’.
“I was 18 and I’d been told by my high school drama teacher that a lot of actors are out of work a lot of the time. Within two weeks of going up to Melbourne I was offered a role on ‘Neighbours’.”
Guy played the role of Mike until 1989, and the character was good friends with well-loved characters Charlene and Scott Mitchell, played by Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.
The soap celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2020 and Guy took to Twitter to express his gratitude.
He said: “Dec 2nd 1985. On this day 35 years ago I started filming a little tv show in Ramsey Street. Some of you may have heard of it. I was just 18 and a tad nervous. I met wonderful people and have great memories. I’ll always appreciate this incredible opportunity. (sic)”
The show has been responsible for launching the careers of several stars from Down Under, most notably pop superstar Kylie, and ‘Suicide Squad’ star Margot Robbie, who portrayed Donna Freedman in the show from 2008 to 2011.
