Richard Wilson would play Victor Meldrew again ‘for old time’s sake’

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Wilson would play Victor Meldrew again “for old time’s sake”.
The 85-year-old actor hasn’t portrayed his iconic role as the grumpy pensioner in ‘One Foot in the Grave’ for more than a decade after the character died in the sitcom, but he would still be up for playing him one more time.
He told the ‘One Foot in the Podcast’: “I’d be interested for old time’s sake.”
But Richard says he’s come to a point when he no longer harbours many desires and now spends the majority of his working life on radio.
He said: “I think I’m getting too old to have any desires left.
“I do more radio now.
“I do a radio programme called ‘Believe It’ which is quite good fun, I have a lot of chums in it.”
And having spent years as a theatre director, Richard says he now feels he’s too long in the tooth to do that anymore.
He added: “I think directing is getting too much.
“I don’t do theatre anymore because it shows a weakness, it’s too difficult.
“I haven’t directed for a while now.
“When ‘One Foot’ was being made I was directing theatre and then going back to acting and that was helpful.”
And having suffered a near fatal heart attack in 2016, he says his memory is still affected, which is another factor in him taking a step back.
He said: “Because I had this heart attack I forget who was in the show. I don’t really remember titles.”
Just last month, Richard said he’d been more than happy to kill off the character of Victor.
Speaking about when ‘One Foot in the Grave’ writer David Renwick informed him that Victor’s days were numbered, he recalled: “Over dinner he said, ‘I’m thinking of killing Victor. What do you think?’
“I said, ‘Yeah I think we should kill him.’
“I thought I’d had enough of him.”
