Lesley Joseph confirms end of Birds of a Feather

OHMYGOSSIP — Lesley Joseph has confirmed the end of ‘Birds of a Feather’.
The 75-year-old actress – who has played Dorien Green for 32 years – revealed the 2020 Christmas special was the final instalment of the long-running sitcom.
She said: “I don’t think it’s going to happen again to be absolutely honest. I think after 32 years, I need to do other things. Keeping your weight down to play Dorien is not easy.
“She has to be an absolutely skinny bean and it’s not easy to lose the weight, especially when you’ve had Victoria sponge the whole of lockdown. As Dorien you could never eat that. But it’s coming off now. I’ve just lost 10lbs.
“I have lived with her for 32 but she’s now rested … rested with her heels.”
‘Birds Of A Feather’ – which also starred Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke – follows two sisters whose husbands are jailed for armed robbery.
The show ran for nine series on the BBC between 1989 and 1998 and was revived by ITV in 2014.
The decision comes after ITV chose not to order any more episodes of the comedy despite attracting 7.9million viewers.
However, Lesley was not surprised the show had come to an end after 30 years on air.
Speaking at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival Preview Day, she said: “No shows last over 30 years. They don’t … come on.
“I mean, ‘Only Fools and Horses’ didn’t and ‘Fawlty Towers’ did two series or 12 episodes but no show lasts that long.”
Lesley and Linda could be set to land a new programme which sees them fulfil their life’s ambitions by ticking off a “bucket list” of weird and wacky wishes.
