Former Corrie actress Shobna Gulati becomes a Doctor of Arts

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Coronation Street’ star Shobna Gulati has become a Doctor of Arts.
The 54-year-old actress – who played Sunita Alahan in the ITV soap – has been awarded a doctorate by the University of Bolton in recognition of her “work in entertainment and in the community” and she was delighted to accept the honour, which she was able to do in person.
In a Twitter post, she revealed: “I became officially Dr Shobna Gulati Doctor of Arts in recognition of my work in entertainment and in the community. What an honour and privilege from @BoltonUni THANK YOU for a wonderful graduation ceremony to all the staff THANK YOU
Shobna – who grew up in the Salcombe area of Manchester – assured her Twitter followers that the graduation ceremony was completely “COVID secure”.
In another tweet, she revealed: “The ceremony was intimate and COVID secure … the opportunity to actually graduate means the world to me and to all of you who are congratulations x”
Shobna contracted coronavirus last year and and she required antibiotics to aide her in her recovery because she developed long COVID.
In June, she tweeted: “Long Covid is no joke on another round of anti-biotics – I’ve cancelled Monday..I feel dreadful the wheeze across my chest is real. #StaySafe.”
The former ‘Dinner Ladies’ actress previously confessed to experiencing breathing difficulties and at one stage, she even wondered whether she’d survive.
She shared: “When I had coronavirus and couldn’t smell or taste it was depressing.
“I live in a little community who rallied round me. I was really hot; a temperature beyond menopause. I couldn’t take a deep breath for three months. I was exhausted. I had to crawl upstairs on all fours.”
Shobna was diagnosed with pneumonia at one point and she was left fearing for her life.
The actress – who joined ‘Corrie’ in 2001 – said: “I was diagnosed with pneumonia and had three rounds of antibiotics. I just couldn’t get rid of it. There were times I thought: ‘If I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die.'”
