Noomi Rapace: I’ll change for roles
OHMYGOSSIP — Noomi Rapace is happy to change her physical appearance for a role and doesn’t let what she looks like affect her dedication to a character. The Swedish actress always looks flawless on the red carpet, and rocks a quirky sense of style.
She recently wowed in a metallic pink Lanvin dress and jacket combo in New York, with the brand being a particular favourite of hers.
However, when she’s working the 34-year-old doesn’t let fashion and beauty dictate her mindset.
“I give my heart and soul to it [acting], that’s how it comes to life. I made that decision when I was 22, 23,” Noomi explained to The Edit. “I was doing a play and I was in make-up tests and I wanted to look sexy, but then I realised, ‘It’s not the character: it’s your vanity! This is you cheating on the character!’
“So I made a deal with myself to never be driven by vanity. I’m vain and I love fashion, but it can never be my goal to look good in a movie. Maybe the character is vain, but my own struggles are something I keep away. That’s why I can bulk up or slim down or pierce myself or shave my head. Whatever it takes.”
Noomi has always had a flair for fashion, and took to making garments at a young age.
Now she’s often dressed by high end designers such as Antonio Berardi and Givenchy, but during her younger years Noomi had to create her own designs due to money troubles.
“I used to make my own clothes because I couldn’t afford anything I wanted,” Noomi revealed. “My mother bought me an old sewing machine and I would stitch all night.”
