Michelle Collins urges government to reopen UK theatres

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Collins thinks it’s “absolutely disgusting” that UK theatres remain closed.
The 60-year-old actress – who previously played Cindy Beale in ‘EastEnders’ – has taken to Instagram to urge the government to heed the advice of Andrew Lloyd Webber, who has launched legal action in a bid to force government to publish the results of its coronavirus events research programme.
Michelle said: “So, can I just say well done to Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, for taking the government to court to open our theatres. This is absolutely disgusting that theatres are still not open.
“I organised a campaign last May because so many people had lost their jobs within the theatre industry and within the arts … trying to raise money not just for actors – everybody who worked in our industry. I mean, I’d lost a few jobs in the theatre. And over a year later, theatres are still not open.”
Michelle observed that the arts industry brings in a huge amount of money to the UK’s economy, and she thinks the time has come to reopen theatres.
She said: “We’ve been encouraged to have vaccines – two vaccines – and told that everything would be safe and they’re still not open.
“As Lord Lloyd Webber said, the arts bring in millions and millions and millions into this country … I think the arts are essential and apparently someone within the government said, ‘The arts, it’s very lovely, the theatre … it’s very lovely but it’s not quite essential, is it?'”
Michelle then directed her comments at Prime Minister Boris Johnson, urging him to rethink the current restrictions.
The former soap star said: “Come on Boris, do the right thing – open our theatres, please.”
